CHAMPIONS: The Southern Railway team which triumphed on Friday.

KOCHI: International Geethu Anna Jose produced a stunning 53 points as Southern Railway, Chennai, defeated Central Railway 78-62 to win the women’s title in the second Geojit Cup all-India basketball tournament at the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium on Friday.

Initially the game was close with Central, backed by some sparkling team effort and fast play and captain Indu’s fine underbaskets, leading 20-15.

But Geethu , the top scorer at the recent Asian Championship, blew her opponent off the court in the next session.

Dominating both the offensive and defensive boards, the 6’2 star plucked rebounds at will and converted freely.
